Process Measurement

In order to operate a plant, the process operator must have an accurate measurement of all the process variables that are related to making a quality product.

The four essential measuring parameters are flow, temperature, pressure and level. Other types of measuring parameters such as vibration and on-stream analysis are also available. Due to the multitude of process applications no one meter can be used to cover all situations. Therefore many types of measuring instruments must be made available.

In this three day course participants will learn about the basic elements of process measurement, the operating principles of measurement sensors and how measurement signals are transmitted. They will learn about the four common measuring parameters - flow, temperature, level and pressure - as well as some of the less common used in industry.

Day 1
Process Measurement - Overview

  • Introductory information
  • Process Measurement
  • Meter calibration
  • Measurement sensors
  • Signal transmission

On day 1, participants will learn about the importance of process measurement and how it fits into the control loop, They will learn about various types of sensors and how a measuring device is calibrated to accurately reproduce the measured variable. They will learn about how signals are transmitted from one device to another.

Day 2
Process Measurement

  • Flow Measurement
  • Temperature Measurement

On day 2, participants will learn about the different types of flow and temperature measuring devices. They will learn about the properties of fluid flow and temperature change and how these properties are used to operate their respective sensors. They will also learn how different types of flow and temperature meters are built to match the different process dynamics related to flow and temperature changes.

Day 3
Process Measurement

  • Pressure Measurement
  • Level Measurement
  • Other Measuring Devices
On day 3, participants will learn about the different types of pressure and level measuring devices. They will learn about the properties of pressure and level and how these properties are used to operate their respective sensors. They will also learn how different types of pressure and level meters are built to match the different process dynamics related to pressure and level changes. Participants will also be made aware of the measurement of other parameters
