Positive Displacement Compressors

This course will provide the trainee with the knowledge necessary to understand and enhance their mechanical aptitude in the area of Positive Displacement Compressors.

The purpose of this course is to develop a working knowledge of various types of Positive Displacement Compressors which will include various types including the different procedures associated with operation and installation of these compressors.  With the completion of this course the trainees will be equipped with the introductory knowledge required to assist in installation and repair compressors and their related systems.

Technicians are required to have a good technical understanding of the positive displacement compressor.  The technicians that participate in this training will be better equipped to repair and maintain as well as install and commission compressors and their associated systems within working environment as well as increasing the knowledge within the maintenance team, thereby increasing the safe and efficient productivity of the mechanical systems.  With further on-job training and experience the technician will be able to attend more advanced training in this area therefore enhancing the maintenance team’s capabilities and knowledge.

The following Topics will be covered allowing the Technicians a much stronger understanding of the Operation and Maintenance of Machinery and Equipment in the Petroleum Industry.
The course will begin with a review of the course outline as well as and further activities scheduled for the day.

Day 1 - Identification

  • Identify Components and Construction
    • Define terminology associated with positive displacement compressors.
    • Identify hazards and describe safe work practices associated with positive displacement compressors.
    • Identify components and describe their applications and operation.

Day 2 – Maintenance and Diagnostics

  • Describe the procedures used to repair positive displacement compressors.
  • Describe the procedures used to troubleshoot positive displacement compressors.
  • Identify considerations for determining if positive displacement compressors repair or replacement is required.
  • Procedures used to remove, install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair and commission positive displacement compressors.
The specifications and installation requirements that are required with the maintenance and installation as well as commissioning of this equipment is knowledge that is impertinent to the correct and successful development for all Mechanical Technicians in the Industry.  For the trainees this is the opportunity to learn information that will assist you in advancing in the maintenance environment.  This training will enhance the previous knowledge of the trainee and assist the trainee in providing better maintenance procedures. This training will allow the technician to understand the maintenance and operation of equipment not normally under their responsibilities.

This course is mainly targeted to Mechanical Technicians in Oil and Gas industry working in the field as an introduction or refresher.

The course can also be applicable to employees working with equipment purchasing, procurement, storage, and job planning as well as immediate supervisors to the working technicians.
