Gas Lift Systems

This course will cover the installation, operation and maintenance of Gas Lift systems.

The participants in this course learn about the basic principles of gas lift and why it is used. This would include information about the operation of a well and how hydrocarbons can flow under natural and artificial lift systems.

The gas lift valves are one of the most important components in the gas lift system. The participants will learn about the various types of valves used and their operation. Along with operating the gas lift system the participants will become familiar gas lift valve installation and removal. Common troubleshooting scenarios are also discussed in this part of the course.

Day 1
Gas Lift Systems

  • Well Evaluation
  • Well Drive Pressure
  • Gas Lift Valve Types
  • Gas Lift Valve Use

Evaluating the well performance will determine if artificial lift is required. On day 1 the participants will learn about how a well uses natural pressure in the well formation to remove its hydrocarbons. When this pressure starts to decrease artificial lift systems such as gas lift are used. Participants will learn about different types of gas lift valves and become familiar with gas lift systems and how to use them.

Day 2
Gas Lift Valves

  • Gas Lift Valve Operation
  • Gas Lift Valve Mechanisms
  • Gas Lift Valve Installation and Removal
  • Gas Lift Valve Sizing
  • Troubleshooting

In day 2 the participants will be exposed to information pertaining to installing and maintaining the equipment in the gas lift system. They will learn about valve mechanics, installation and removal, valve sizing and how to troubleshoot problems. The participants will learn about the value of team work which is required to make the gas lift system operate at its optimal point.

This course is mainly targeted to process operators, process technicians, and laboratory and maintenance personnel. The course can also be applicable to employees working with equipment and materials purchasing, equipment procurement, job planning as well as immediate supervisors to the working technicians.
